French at Christ Church
Learning French at a primary school level opens up a world of opportunities for children. It’s not just about speaking a different language; it’s a gateway to understanding diverse cultures and fostering connections with people globally. The National Curriculum highlights modern foreign languages as a crucial component of children's education, encouraging them to develop an appreciation of language and its role in communication.
The benefits of learning French are numerous. Not only does it enhance cognitive skills, such as problem-solving and creativity, but it also lays a foundation for future language learning. Studies show that bilingual children often perform better academically. Additionally, getting to grips with French can boost children's confidence and social skills when they engage in conversations, whether in the classroom or on holiday. Ultimately, learning French is a fun and enriching experience that prepares children for a more interconnected world.
Implementation
At Christ Church, we're excited to implement French into our curriculum using Duolingo. This fantastic app is not only free but also incredibly user-friendly, making it accessible for both our students in school and their families at home. By incorporating Duolingo into our lessons, we aim to create a fun and engaging way for children to learn the language.
In the classroom, Duolingo will be taught to the whole class, which fosters a collaborative learning environment where students can practise speaking and writing in French together. The app's interactive features and gamified approach to language learning will keep our children motivated and eager to expand their vocabulary and understanding. We believe this method will enhance their grasp of the French language while helping to build their confidence in using it. It’s all about making language learning enjoyable and effective!
